In bright, incandescent yellow, mustard flowers blanket Napa Valley vineyards every year, welcoming visitors to experience this remarkable winemaking region. For the Reynolds Family Winery the flower we use on our labels is a symbol of the Napa Valley and the distinctive growing seasons.
Reynolds Family Winery is a small, family owned and operated winery that specializes in limited production of handcrafted premium Cabernet Sauvignon. With strong determination and hard work, we renovated an old, 14-acre ranch, planted 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and built a charming 7,000 square foot winery facility and tasting room. Reynolds Family Winery is at the foot of the Stags Leap District, in the proposed Silverado Bench appellation - an area known for producing rich and complex wines.
While following the Napa Valley paradigm of excellence by tradition, Reynolds Family Winery also seeks new standards and styles through innovation. We start with the meticulous vineyard practices. It is through careful selection of cover crops, balancing the vine canopy and dramatically reducing the fruit yield that we create intense colors and flavors. We create brilliant, fruit forward wines through the classic style of small, hand-punch down bin fermentation, but also add depth and complexity through newer rack and return tank techniques. Barrels are a blend of predominately French handcrafted cooperage with a mix of select Italian, Hungarian and aged American Oak.
The Reynolds Family Winery vision is to produce bold and expressive wines that achieve a new sense of extraordinary taste. We are compelled to create excellence with experimentation using different yeast, clones, vines, barrels, bins and tanks. The artisan winemaking techniques emphasize rich body and intense varietal flavors.
2005 Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Chardonnay
This is the fourth vintage of the Los Carneros Chardonnay that Steve has undertaken. Sourced from the Los Carneros AVA, the Corrotto Vineyard is located near Winery Lake on Dealy Lane. The Los Carneros AVA is nestled between Napa and Sonoma. It boasts a unique climate of marine breezes and low moisture that work in harmony with the rich soil to produce this varietal.
The Reynolds Family Los Carneros Chardonnay is made using non malo-lactic fermentation and it is produced in 20% French Oak. This is a voluptuous round wine that is best served chilled to bring out the tropically bright flavors and accentuate the hints of pineapple and pear.
This wine will pair well with apples, nut and cheeses.
2004 Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Pinot Noir
The 2004 vintage was one that demanded patience, which would prove to pay off at harvest, when a late pick yielded promising fruit with well developed flavors and smooth tannins. This is the fourth vintage of the Los Carneros Pinot Noir that Steve has undertaken. The Corrotto Vineyard where we source the grapes has an excellent reputation for producing some of the best Pinot Noir that the Los Carneros appellation has to offer. The now 12 year old vines are a testament of successful grafting of clone 667 to St. George rootstock. The Los Carneros AVA itself is very unique in that it has a cool microclimate. Marine breezes and low moisture combined with heavy soil naturally foster the full ripening of the bright Pinot Noir flavors. Nestled between Napa and Sonoma, the 36,900 acres that make up the Carneros AVA, are high in clay composition making it excellent soil content.
The Reynolds Family Winery Los Carneros Pinot Noir is crafted in a New World style and has a very up front fruit nose with aromas of fresh raspberries, berry jam and cherry. This wine has an excellent linear mid palate with rich concentrations of fresh blackberry, black cherry, cedar and spice. This is a compelling example of a complex Los Carneros Pinot Noir.
2002 Reynolds Family Winery Estate Select Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2002 vintage from Reynolds Family Winery benefited from a long dry season of warm days and cool nights, giving the fruit a perfect balance of energy and rest. Our low yield vineyard practices, (at 2.5 tons per acre), continually ensure beautifully dark fruit with mature, developed tannins. The Estate Select Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from grapes that are exclusively grown on the 10 acre estate vineyard. The winemaking techniques include tank fermentation with rack and return in combination with the gentle treatment of the fruit which is inherent to small bin fermentation, three daily hand punch down of caps and gentle bladder pressing. The blend of two Bordeaux Cabernet clones, 337 & 4, the Wiemer clone and Cab Franc clone 5 create an intense deep color and dark fruit aromas such as black currant, tobacco and spice.
The broad spectrum of flavors in this wine is highlighted by blackberry, cassis, cherry, tobacco with hints of dark chocolate. This wine is an expanding fatter wine, with a rich complex middle palate and firm velvety tannins that lead to a lingering soft and supple finish.
2002 Reynolds Family Winery Persistence
Persistence represents not only the patience and restraint engaged when working with such beautifully selected Napa Valley fruit, but also the journey one takes to becoming one of the premier winemakers in the Napa Valley. Steve Reynolds followed his dream by turning an old farming property into one of Napa's newest stars. Alone, Steve and Suzie developed a beautiful and inviting winery and meticulous vineyards with the hope to share it with those who appreciate everything Napa has to offer. Steve has a focus of nurturing the fruit to its fullest potential while continually employing farming practices that will help sustain the vineyard for years to come. Creating such an intriguing, integrated and intense wine takes Persistence.
The 2002 vintage is the second release of Persistence for Reynolds Family Winery. Persistence is the most complex, and structured wine yet produced and showcases seven clones of Cabernet Sauvignon from four vineyards in different appellations of the Napa Valley. The diverse selection of clones within the varietals lends to a symphony of flavors that can only be achieved through complex blending. Persistence is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah. The wine begins with an intense fruitful nose with aromas of dark berries, tobacco and spice. The smoothly integrated tannins allow for a lengthy, supple and velvety finish.
