When the spectacular racing career of the legendary thoroughbred, Seabiscuit, came to an end, he was retired to our Ridgewood Ranch in Mendocino County's Redwood Valley, where his memory inspires our winemaking endeavors.
Seabiscuit Ranch vineyards are located on a southern portion of the original Ridgewood Ranch. Located just 20 miles from the Mendocino coastline, these small, award-winning vineyards are perched at an altitude of 1,000 feet on steep slopes of the Pacific Coastal Mountain range. Vines are nurtured and harvested entirely by hand according to sustainable growing practices.
Grapes from Mendocino County's Redwood Valley appellation are uniquely flavorful, complex, and well-balanced. Here, warm days contrast with cool nighttime temperatures. These dramatic daily temperature swings offer the qualitative edge to fruit harvested from one of California's northernmost viticultural districts.
A book we like that describes the ranch in breathtaking detail: "Ridgewood Ranch - Home of Seabiscuit" by Jani Buron

Chardonnay
From the terraced
vineyard on the mountainside of Reeves Canyon, this vineyard was part of the original
Ridgewood Ranch - Seabiscuit’s home. Its gravelly soils and proximity
to cooling influence of winds and fog off the Pacific Ocean make a
distinctive style of fruit that defines our Chardonnay. Packed with
concentrated fruit flavors, this Chardonnay demonstrates the intensity
that results from sustainable natural farming and mindful winemaking
techniques.

Merlot
Lovely, full-bodied red fruit flavors predominate, with good acidity balance and a soft mouth-filling silky finish. A bit of Cabernet Sauvignon is blended to add ripe fruit flavor complexity. The wine is styled to accompany foods. Serve with grilled meats or poultry. Merlot also is a great complement for rich tomato-based pasta sauces and risotto.

Superfecta
An exceptional red wine blend of four classic varieties: primarily Cabernet Sauvingon with nuances gained from the addition of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Our objective is to
produce a proprietary true “reserve” quality wine. The wine has deep purple color, concentrated ripe fruit aromas and flavors, with medium-to-robust body.
