MORESON
Moreson

In 1688 the French Huguenots came to South Africa – enriching us with their culture, language and winemaking flair. With their eye for beauty and good wine growing conditions, they settled in the Franschhoek (corner of France) Valley. Our farm, Môreson, was part of La Motte, one of the original farms granted to the French Huguenots in 1695 by Governor Simon van der Stel. In 1986 Môreson was purchased by the Friedman family and with their dynamic and visionary approach, insatiable zest for life, creativity and sound business principals they transformed Môreson into a prominent name among Cape wines.

Scientific vineyard location and meticulous winemaking is our philosophy at Môreson. We focus on producing the best grapes in our Franschhoek vineyards, carefully sourcing the highest quality grapes from Paarl and Stellenbosch and excellence in the cellar. The diversity of the Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch regions can be traced to the influences of the oceans, mountains and soils and we allow each vineyard to express its intrinsic character in the special wines we craft.

In our Franschhoek vineyards the soils are light and ideal for early ripening varietals like Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. With the mountains shading the vineyards from the early morning and late afternoon sun and an almost continuous Southeaster from Walker Bay, the ripening grapes are kept cool during the long, warm summer.

In our Paarl vineyards the soil has a higher clay component which helps with moisture retention and a layer of small stones which keeps the soil cool. With the cool Atlantic afternoon breezes these vineyards are ideal for the long ripening period of the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The soils in our Stellenbosch vineyards comprise of decomposed sandstone. These western slop vineyards are higher and cooler than the surrounding vineyards, making them ideal for dry land Pinotage and contributing the intense fruit in our Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

2006 Chenin Blanc

This rich, ripe yet elegant and charming wine reminds a lot about apples and pear drops on the nose. The well balanced acid carries the fruit nicely on the palate.

2005 Sauvignon Blanc

A celebration of the Franschhoek terrior. This wine shows a fusion of herbaceous and tropical characters with typical Franschhoek chalkiness. The palate is crisp with vibrant acidity and a touch of sparkle, leaving a mouth filling lemon and grass zing.

2005 Chardonnay

Ripe melons and citrus on the nose with undertones of wood and vanilla. The acid / sugar balance carries the fruit nicely on the palate to ensure roundness.

2000 Cabernet Sauvignon

Hints of red berries and cassis on nose with some eucalyptus tones. This well balanced wine is packed with fruit on the palate with nice dry tannins to support it.

2003 Merlot

Fruitcake and berries on the nose with hints of mocha. The ripe fruit on the palate is well supported by the integrated oak and vanilla flavours.

2004 Pinotage

Dark with vibrant violet tinges, a fusion of red berry fruit showing intense cherry and raspberry combining with sweet oak aromas of vanilla, cocoa and smoked meat. Rich, ripe tannins with mouth filling flavours of cherry, dark chocolate, meat spice and a lingering aftertaste of toffee and candied sweets.

2002 Magia

True to the vintage, flavours lean toward a warm, smoky and wild mushroom richness, a little bit of herbal hints and an overlayer of blueberry. The palate is velvety and mouth filling with lingering sweet oak vanilla, cinnamon and licorice.

Cuvee Cape MCC

Absolutely unique to the Cape is this blend of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc. This wine is packed with bubbly freshness. Aromas of gooseberries, ripe figs and olive combines with classic Méthode Champenoise complexities, rewarding the palate with elegant mousse and leaving a lingering sweet yeasty sensation.
