The Coats and Whitney Vineyard is a family-owned, sustainably farmed, 10 acre site nestled in the low hills of the Yamhill-Carlton District midway between the towns giving their name to the AVA. Established in 2003, the 7.5 acre vineyard sits at 500 feet and is planted exclusively to Pinot Noir with clones of Pmmard and Wadenswil. The soils are Willakenzie, which are characteristically coarse-grained, ancient marine sediments that drain quickly establishing a natural moisture deficit that promotes early ripening. These soils on gently sloping East, West and South exposures give the vineyard its distinctive character of producing wines of complexity and minerality.
The winemaker is Scott Shull of Raptor Ridge.

CAW Single Vineyard Pinot NoirThis second vintage marks the first year of blending our Wadenswil clone
with our Pommard clone and yielded a well-developed and complex wine.
It has a beautiful deep ruby color in the glass and opens with pretty
aromas of rose petals and cranberries. Flavors of ripe raspberries,
blackberries and plums are clean, yet vibrant. Black pepper and slate
minerality underscore the fresh fruit. Good acidity and nice, light
tannins give this wine a finely-structured balance.
